Applying for the CDCP is straightforward. Seniors will receive invitation letters starting December 2023, with other groups following in phases until 2025. It’s important to note that this plan is not simply “free dental care.” Under the proposed plan, a portion of the eligible dental expenses will be reimbursed based on CDCP’s set fee rates. However, the plan includes a co-payment structure, where the amount that beneficiaries must pay directly to their oral health provider depends on their family’s adjusted net income.

Specifically, this co-payment arrangement is as follows: individuals with a family income less than $70,000 annually will have no co-payment; those earning between $70,000 and $79,999 will be responsible for 40% of the costs; and for incomes between $80,000 and $89,999, the co-payment will be 60%.

Dental providers are advised to adhere to the fee rates established by the CDCP, which differ from the standard provincial and territorial rates, ensuring that patients do not incur additional expenses during their dental treatments.
